Should You Install Storm Windows in Your Home?

Aside from new entry doors, storm windows are a great addition to structures with old, drafty single-pane windows. They can help improve your home’s appearance and energy efficiency.

What Are Storm Windows?

Storm windows are usually installed on the exterior of your current windows for added energy efficiency. They improve wind protection and weather insulation. Storm windows can be custom-designed to fit your existing windows.

You can easily add a storm window either on the exterior or interior of your home. Consider installing them on the parts of your home that are prone to high winds and drafts. An energy audit can help detect spots where you should add storm windows or when it’s time to install new patio doors.

ProVia Aluminum Storm Window Options

Double-Hung Windows

You have two options for double-hung windows, the Town & Country and Concord. Both styles offer the same benefits. However, Town & Country features mitered frame corners for superior beauty, strength and elegance.

Triple-track windows have an inside operating half screen while double-track windows feature a half screen, housed under the exterior sash. Their full-perimeter weatherstripping keeps out the cold and heat. The mid-window stabilizer bar provides added structural strength. These windows are easy to clean with their removable sashes and half screens. Their Teflon® coated springs and electrostatic coating on latch bolts allow sleek operation.

Valley Forge for Sliding Windows

This style’s mitered frame corners add strength and beauty to your existing windows. They're available in two or three lite models. The hollow sill construction adds strength and drainage control. It features full-length pull rain with spring-loaded latches. Long-life Delrin® rollers with stainless steel housing allow easy operation.

Clinton for Picture Windows

Clinton storm windows have mitered frame corners for superior strength. They can come with either an inside or outside removable sash and/or an optional screen. These storm windows have sash clips for removable sash and full-perimeter weatherstripping. They are available in up to four lite units. Also, you can order architectural shapes with additional lead time.

Our Reviews

Abby came to evaluate the job and make recommendations as to the type of windows and doors. We chose double-hung, triple-glazed Preservation windows and doors by Alside. Abby followed up by sending her lead measuring tech to get exact dimensions and make installation notes re: threshold modification, etc.
